Hand Arm Vibration

Working Conditions and Behaviour

Keeping the hands circulated is crucial. Maintaining the blood flowing by keeping hands warm, this can be achieved by maintaining the temperature in the workplace as far as reasonably practicable. Reducing exposure and introducing breaks, Supplying gloves can also be beneficial to minimize the strength grip needed.

Ergonomics

When selecting tools for the job in hand take into account the ergonomic fitness of the machine and supply relative training in the correct selection and use of tools required. Consider making improvements to the overall ergonomics of high risk tasks.

Symptom reporting

Putting in place a process where operators know to report any symptoms linked with hand arm vibration or vibration white finger.

Reduce vibration

Main techniques considered to reduce vibration levels are to apply engineering techniques to reduce them at source, by retro-fit modifications, e.g. jigs, suspension systems, and tool rests. Also effective are operational changes to minimize vibration air pressures and flow-rates, automating or changing the way the job is done.
